What does it mean to be cycle synced?

Dear woman who has wondered why she feels different every week,

What does it mean to
be cycle synced?

Cycle syncing is the practice of aligning how you eat, move, rest, and work to the hormonal phases of your menstrual cycle. Here is what it is, what the science actually says, and how to start without making it complicated.

The four phases

Phase 1 — Menstrual (days 1–5). Estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest. The brain is in a uniquely introspective state, supporting holistic, big-picture thinking. The body is asking for rest, warmth, and inward attention. This is not weakness. It is appropriate seasonal self-care.

Phase 2 — Follicular (days 6–13). Estrogen rises steadily. This phase is characterised by increasing energy, motivation, and cognitive sharpness. Creativity, new beginnings, and high-output work come more easily here.

Phase 3 — Ovulatory (days 14–17). Estrogen peaks. This is typically when energy, confidence, verbal fluency, and social ease are at their highest. Olfactory sensitivity also peaks at ovulation — making scent particularly potent and meaningful in this phase.

Phase 4 — Luteal (days 18–28). Progesterone rises. The first half favours detail-oriented, completion-focused work. The second half calls for more rest, nourishment, and gentleness.

"By understanding your body, you can start working with it rather than against it." — Dr. Natalie Brown

How to start without making it a project

Track your cycle for two to three months — not just your period, but your energy, mood, appetite, and sleep. Notice before you plan. Adjust one thing at a time. And include a sensory anchor: a scent consciously chosen for each phase helps the nervous system orient and the body feel held in its current season.

You are not inconsistent. You are cyclical. There is a profound difference — and knowing it changes everything.

With deep respect,

Geeta
